Nomination of Tom Nolan

At the upcoming Fall Governing Board, Tom Nolan will be nominated and voted on as Assistant Chair of the Boat Systems Committee. Below is a brief biography highlighting his background and contributions.

Biography
P/C Tom Nolan, SN, has been an avid boater since 1984, spending countless hours cruising and fishing the coastal waters of South Florida. He holds a master's degree in electrical engineering and has continually advanced his boating education—earning a Coast Guard Master of Near Coastal Waters license, achieving the rank of Senior Navigator in the USPS, and completing Marine Surveying studies at the Chapman School of Seamanship.

Following a successful career as an engineering manager for a major corporation, Tom founded Latitude Marine in 2003. Over nearly two decades as an accredited marine surveyor, he inspected hundreds of boats across Florida, served as Vice Chairman of the Marine Advisory Board for the City of Deerfield Beach, and was elected President of the Fort Lauderdale Mariners Club.

Tom joined the Pompano Beach Sail and Power Squadron in 2000 and soon achieved the grade of Senior Navigator. For 17 years, he served on the squadron executive committee in roles including Squadron Educational Officer and Commander. He has taught advanced courses through Advanced Piloting as well as many electives and seminars. In 2012, he was honored with the Charles F. Chapman Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Now retired, Tom lives in Deerfield Beach, FL with his wife, Pat. Together, they continue to pursue their passion for cruising—navigating their inboard vessel up the East Coast to the Chesapeake Bay in 2022, extending their journey to upstate New York in 2023, and continuing their adventures along the Erie Canal and beyond.
